Oklahoma Hemp

HB 2913

Gov. Mary Fallin legalized industrial hemp cultivation in Oklahoma on April 23, 2018, when she signed HB 2913. The bill created the Industrial Hemp Agricultural Pilot Program.

Universities work with farmers to cultivate hemp seeds for research. Botanac helps farmers navigate the application process and adhere to the program’s strict requirements.

The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry oversees the pilot hemp program.

Legalization

More than three dozen states have started hemp programs since President Barack Obama signed the Federal Agricultural Act of 2014.

Hemp is unlike marijuana because it does not contain the psychoactive compound THC, which is what causes people to get high.
